AWARE Kids’ Nature Club
Meeting Time
The AWARE Kid’s Nature Club takes place every last Saturday of every month (except for December) in the Community Room in the Whistler Public Library from 10 to 11:30 a.m. See you all there!
Our Mission
Our mission is to fulfill the Learning Strategy of the Whistler 2020 Sustainability Plan by teaching children how they can reduce their ecological footprint on the planet by their everyday choices. Children ages 6-12 years old are invited to participate for free, in wild plant and animal programs, games, crafts, interactive presentations and performing arts.
Background
With the adoption of the Natural Step, the creation of the Whistler 2020 Sustainability Plan, and the commitment by local businesses and residents to the environment, the community of Whistler is striving to become more environmentally sustainable. Now is the time to educate, learn from and inspire our young people to care for the natural world in a better way than we have done. For several years committed people have come together to give our children an opportunity to learn more about nature and how they can better care for it. The AWARE Kid’s Nature Club provides a year-round venue for local and visiting young people to learn how to be proactive and sustainable.
The Club was originally created by a group of conscientious members of the community that recognized the need for an Environmental Education Program for children in Whistler. The kid’s club received funding from Sea to Sky Community Services and a Community Enrichment Grant with the RMOW. These funds allowed for the hiring of an Environmental Education Coordinator, Cara Richard, to design and facilitate Environmental Education Programs for children.
We are grateful to our many committed volunteers & supportive members of the community who have been so generous with their time & donations. The kid’s club needs Volunteer Presenters and Volunteers just to help out.
