Andrew’s interest in the environment was kindled growing up in the World Heritage Area of the Blue Mountains, Australia, where he developed a love of and fascination with the natural world. He studied a Bachelor of Arts (Outdoor Education) to learn how to encourage young people to develop a deeper and more harmonious relationship with nature, and to set themselves and their communities on a more sustainable path. Andrew later completed a Master of Environmental Management, where he learnt to understand environmental issues from a wide range of disciplinary perspectives and to develop holistic policy solutions and management strategies that foster ecologically sustainable development. In his recent position as Waste Reduction Coordinator at the Sunshine Coast Regional District, he came to realize the importance of resource efficiency and recovery to sustainability and was inspired by the concepts of zero waste and the circular economy. Andrew fell in love with Whistler when he first came here in 2006 for a working holiday and is excited to have the opportunity to work alongside local residents and businesses to help showcase Whistler as a leader in the zero waste movement.
